many of these questions are not unsolved - they are simply ethic quandaries that can't really have an answer other then what a society enforces.
Example that might be close to home. Is it a moral equivalent if a rich person who is hungry and a poor person who is hungry steal? Their situation was the same but the circumstances weren't. Society dictates; they are not equal. One can afford a good lawyer while the other is defended by a stressed out DA.
Don't make me put up a list of all unsolved scientific questions.
Or here is a question - is there a dichotomy between science and philosophy?
Also I don't think philosophy is supposed to give all the answers ... only frameworks possible to achieve these answers.
I think more importantly these "philosophical" mysteries highlight the incongruent logic of the basic principles of our inherited philosphy--where as, yes, in our culture today there are many easily distinguishable paradoxes defined by how society is driven (as ben provides above)
in regards to the dichotomy of science and philosphy as a whole of our cultural rational ??? (what about religion and its role) what would the dichotomy be of?--that's a really interesting inquery AND I want to follow through unfortunately i'm at work and am blitzing Paul Allen's Security officers so i've been pulling 9am-to-8pm days this week...
