So i'm trying to push this forward a bit more. for those who haven't heard: this group is going to be hosting a video contest--inviting people to define what can happen in four years--they hired a professional design team to produce the above commercial(they've done nike ads and so on) to give the challengers something to bounce off of. i had a great conversation with chris and corbin this weekend and feel that this competition could push us in that direction!
-so to start i would like to begin a dialogue about our future (click here for the site)--what threatens it --what is at stake--and so on and so forth--i'm posting this as i head home from work so i'll facilitate it better when i get some more comp. time BUT i would love for anyone to jump on and move it forward--this may seem labor intesive and redundant--as all of us have been plowing this concept for some time but REALLy this is a great in if we put in some hard work!!

i'm down, though i know nil about video editing. i'll help with the creative/conceptual end.
i think with our combined skills we could produce something pretty excellent. i vote alex as primary editor. perhaps we could get in touch with big alex about getting some pro-style footage of Ethiopia.
I have all the equipment we'd need: 3 cameras, tripods, lapel mics shotgun mics, no lights but we can improvise, I also have the editing side handled. It sounds like a cool project and I'd be so down to work on it, but I'm not good on the creative/conceptual side.
What we should do if we're serious is start on the script pretty soon. We should have it done by the time we're all back for winter break and start shooting at that point. So maybe someone (Dante) should start a discussion on the thesis of the film and some ideas for translating it to video. When is the deadline by the way?
So i found out about this while riding the ferry with Tevon's father--Mark. he was talking about this and the other group that he was working with--in the excitement of the conversation he began to unviel the concept behind the video contest and the goal of the group (though the name and the site make it very clear, its not hard to figure it out) in terms of deadlines i only know that the contest will open in november...sOOO...i really don't know i am just wanting to get usa storming stuff.
This is great guys - I would love to help on this. I have a few lights and screens/ meters too if we want it to look really professional.
I think the possibilities are endless, but we might be more successful in this if we focus on the little things that could be widespread, like solar water-heaters in every home, or biodegradable containers, town machines that turn plastic into oil (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6W5wEAbp9o8). There is a very good book that talks a lot about this concept, but it takes them on in 20 years.
