Spring break plans

hey when is everyones spring break? It would be fun to coordinate something.

My break begins the 18th of March and I fly out to Thailand on April 11. The days on spend on Bainbridge will be entirely dependant on when you all are home.

JMT Update

So I did a little more research, (I probably should have made this phone call before, but whatever) and found out from the Mt. Whitney permit people that if we are thru-hiking the JMT starting in Yosemite, that we do not need to enter the lottery, just make a reservation for our start date through the national park. This is not a lottery, and costs only 5$ as opposed to 15$ per person. Unfortunately, the typical starting point for the trail, Happy Isles, is already completely booked for all of July. This leaves us with 2 options, there is another starting point 32 miles up trail from Happy Isles, Lyell Canyon, which has a higher quota for permits/day, and none of July is booked up yet. The other option is to try to get one of the permits allotted to same day or day before hikers. (40% of permits per day are in this category) Possibly we could reserve a date for the Canyon, and then try the day before for the closer starting point, and start there if we can get it, and if not fall back to the other.

This gives us much greater flexibility on our departure dates, because we can reserve any date in July at the other put in.

"The Battle of Algiers reconstructs events that occurred in the capital city of French Algeria between November 1954 and December 1960, during the Algerian War of Independence. The narrative begins with the organization of revolutionary cells in the Casbah. Then civil war between native Algerians and Colonialists pigs begin ... "

Not mentioned is that this film is incredibly intense with insane momentum. Just an awesome movie from a film critic standpoint of cinemotography, music, style ...
Please watch it is awesome.

Gomorrah

Another great film that I recently watched that explores the contemporary mafia of Italy.
I would describe this film as a European version of City of God--in that it attempts to portray its themes and subjects in a realistic way--through long scenes, following various aspects of the lives of people who are involved in the mafia--

Full Metal Jacket

Just went back this weekend and spent some time with alex--kicking back on the couch and watching a good flick:

Full Metal Jacket

a detailed film that explores the dehumanizing affects of the Vietnam war and the military system as a whole.

A film worth watching if you haven't.

--the reason for this post is that alex and I thought it would be good idea to start building a list of great films that we have seen--there being so many films--we thought it would be nice to start documenting great films that are must sees--this being one of them. everyone is welcome to join in--we're trying to keep this list more on the epic side than on the let us get blazed and then watch some big explosions and repetitive stories--

one main aspect that I am looking for in our documentation of great films is an Original Story--or at least an exploration of another angle--or at least a break from the repetitive story telling of our main stream cinema.
